What is new in GoNesting

Everything we have changed since day one, newest first. No jargon. The numbers come from our own tests on real DXF files.

  1. A faster website and a new About page

    This one is about the website, not the app. Nothing in your nesting changes.

    • BetterPages open faster. We were sending font files that the pages never used, so they are gone.
    • BetterPage addresses are shorter and easier to type: gonesting.com/pricing instead of gonesting.com/pricing.html. Old links still work.
    • NewA new About page: why we built GoNesting, and what it does not do.
    • BetterPictures in the help pages are kept by your browser now, so the page opens quicker the second time.

  2. A PDF for every job, and much better reading of your DXF files

    Our biggest update so far. GoNesting now finds the parts in your drawing far more carefully, and every job you save gets its own report.

    • NewEvery saved nesting now makes a PDF report: your parts, your sheets, the settings you used and how much of the material was used. Download it from History.
    • BetterGoNesting is much better at finding the real parts in a DXF. Parts built from blocks, parts held on by small tabs and shapes split by a cut line are now counted properly. An owl clock that used to show 18 parts now shows the correct 17, and a jigsaw that showed 4 now shows all 26.
    • FixedThe unit is now read from your drawing. A 80 × 50 mm bracket used to come in 25 times too big. If the drawing does not say, we read it both ways and keep the one that makes sense — and the Read as inches switch is still there.
    • FixedA file with nothing to cut in it now says No shapes found. It used to invent a few made-up parts, which helped nobody.
    • FixedExported DXF files open cleanly in more CAD programs, and the file itself now says it is in millimetres.
    • BetterSheet areas are shown in mm² everywhere — the same unit you type your sheet size, gap and margin in.
    • NewSign-up now asks for a phone number and a tick to accept the Terms and Privacy. We only use the number to reach you about your account, and we never share it.
    • NewNew Home, Features, Pricing and Documentation pages. Documentation now shows real screenshots of every step.

  3. AI Smart Rotation, two Pro settings, and one device per account

    The rotation list is clearer, and two settings moved to Pro.

    • BetterThe setting that tries several layouts and keeps the tightest one is now called AI Smart Rotation, and it sits first in the list. It packs exactly as it did before.
    • BetterThe six rotation choices are in a more useful order: AI Smart Rotation, Auto-align, 4 angles, 8 angles, 360 angles, No rotation. 4 angles is still the default.
    • NewCo-edge cutting is now a Pro feature, and it is marked beta. Free accounts keep gap, margin and five of the six rotation choices.
    • New360 angles is now a Pro feature. A free account that asks for it is nested with 8 angles instead, and we tell you on the screen.
    • NewOne account, one device. If your login is used somewhere else, we show you which device has it and offer to sign out there. A device left alone for 15 minutes lets go on its own.

  4. Real results on the website, and a way to write to us

    No drawn examples on the website any more — only real output.

    • NewThe sheet on the home page is a real run of our engine: 188 parts with a 1 mm gap, 86.9% of the sheet used. It is not a picture someone drew.
    • NewYou can write to us from the Contact page. Messages come to info@gonesting.com.

  5. Tighter layouts, better cutting order, DXF fixes

    A big round of work on the nesting engine and the export, each change tested on real shop drawings.

    • BetterRepeated parts can be laid out on an exact grid, measured to a fraction of a millimetre. A phone-stand bracket now fits 40 on a 1200 × 800 mm sheet at a 1 mm gap, up from 33.
    • BetterExported DXF files are written in cutting order: holes before outlines, parts sitting inside another part first, and a short path from one part to the next. On our test jobs the head travels 38% to 76% less.
    • FixedSmall parts the size of a slot in another part are no longer pushed onto a new sheet. A phone-holder kit that needed two sheets now fits on one.
    • FixedOld-style POLYLINE drawings are read correctly. A file that came in as 4 broken shapes now gives all 29 of its real parts.
    • FixedHoles now go with the right part in block drawings, so a part no longer turns up with a cut-out bigger than itself.
    • BetterLong, thin parts nest much faster. One test file went from about 111 seconds to 5 seconds per layout.
    • BetterWhen two layouts fit the same parts on the same sheets, we keep the one that leaves the bigger usable offcut in the corner.

  6. Safer accounts, and no more wasted runs

    We went through the whole app looking for weak spots, and fixed a way people were losing free runs.

    • BetterYour uploaded drawings cannot be opened by anyone else, and pages that need a login now check properly every time.
    • BetterSign-in locks for a while after several wrong passwords, and there is a limit on how many verification emails can be sent.
    • FixedRefreshing the nesting page, or stepping back from Export, no longer uses one of your free runs. If nothing changed, your last layout is simply shown again.

  7. Accounts, plans and history

    Make your own account, and see every job you have run.

    • NewSign up yourself, with a 6-digit code sent to your email.
    • NewA profile page for your name, photo and password. Changing the password needs a code from your email.
    • NewPlans: a Free account comes with 5 nesting runs, Pro has no limit. See Pricing.
    • NewNesting history: every run you have made, with search, filters and a CSV download.

  8. More parts on the same sheet

    Two changes that simply fit more parts, with no new settings to learn.

    • FixedWe were holding back an extra 1 mm ring of space around every part that nobody asked for. 100 × 100 mm parts on a 1000 × 700 mm sheet now fit 70, up from 63. Across 60 test jobs, 8.4% more parts fit on the first sheet.
    • BetterBoth directions of the sheet are tried, so typing 1200 × 800 or 800 × 1200 gives you the same result.
  9. Launch day

    GoNesting goes live

    The first public version. Upload a DXF, pick your sheet, and get a layout you can cut — in the browser, with nothing to install.

    • NewTrue-shape nesting. Parts are placed by their real outline, not by a box drawn around them, so shaped parts sit inside each other instead of wasting the gap.
    • NewSix steps from start to finish: upload files, pick your parts and how many of each, choose your sheets, set the options, run the nesting, export.
    • NewSet the gap between parts and the margin from the sheet edge, in millimetres.
    • NewSix rotation choices, from no rotation at all to every angle.
    • NewSmall parts are placed inside the holes of bigger parts, so a large cut-out is not thrown away.
    • NewCo-edge cutting: where two parts touch, they share one cut line instead of two.
    • NewJobs made mostly of one repeated part can be laid out on a grid when that fits more. Right triangles went from 59 to 80 on a sheet in our tests.
    • NewExport the finished sheets as a DXF file, ready for the machine.
